Welcome!
If you have a Mid-2012 MacBook Pro (that is a guess becasue as all we have is "MacBook Pro 12") you only need a caddy to replace the internal optical drive with a 2.5-inch hard drive or solid state drive, not when you use the old 2.5-inch drive as an external one in a 2.5-inch enclosure.
A "drive caddy" is usually used to adapt a large drive bay or enclosure to hold a physically smaller drive. Example: Some iMacs have a 3.5-inch mechanical hard drive. If you replace the old 3.5-inch HD with a new solid-state drive that is a 2.5-inch case formate, you need a caddy as an adapter to make the mounting secure..
If your drive is 2.5-inch and the Orico enclosure is for 2.5-inch drives, you should not need an adapter/caddy. If you need further help with that particular enclosure, you need to contact Orico.
Here is the install video for a different brand of 2.5-inch enclosure that I use and need no caddy

Should be similar to yours.
