magsafe charger generating heat

Hi, I bought the MagSafe to charge my iphone 12 Pro. However, I found that the charger would always stop at around 80% in the next morning. I touched the iphone and the charger, both were too warm that I didn't feel comfortable safe as it should be according to its name "Safe". For sure, the kind of warm would shorten my battery life. I searched internet why it was stopped at 80%, and it turned out that the MagSafe Charger generated too much heat and my iphone 12 Pro was forced to stop at 80% in order to protect the health of my battery. Even with this mechanism, I believe the warm would age my battery soon. I am disappointed about this product. It was not made according to the marketing booklet.

I have stopped using the MagSafe, it takes 4 hours to get to 80 percent from 15 and then stops, also gets very hot. I feel like i wasted my money, my normal 5w brick charges faster and doesn't heat up my iphone 12.

My reseller in Pakistan also replaced the charger but i am facing the same problem. Did the trouble shoot with apple on chat, they also took a session and gave me a green signal saying my device is ok.

My question is if i got a new charger, serial verified by apple why is it still charging so slow?

Hi, tedchong80, and welcome to the Apple Support Communities. We understand you have some concerns about the temperature of your iPhone and it charging to only 80%. We'll be glad to look into this with you further.

To begin, the charging beyond 80% could also be related to Optimized Battery Charging, as shown here: About Optimized Battery Charging on your iPhone

For the perceived heat, this can be normal under certain conditions. As long as you haven't seen a temperature alert on your device, there shouldn't be an issue. More information on that can be found here: Keeping iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch within acceptable operating temperatures

We hope this helps you out.

Cheers!

It is totally unacceptable. I put my phone under a fan and it showed that the charging activities was stopped at ~80% again. And re-started after few hours. It could be the temperature cool down to certain level and the wireless charging start again. This is really a bad product. How can Apply sell this kind of poor product and still claim it is optimized? This is not optimization but to cover the heat problem. You may see below.

I fully understood it is to cover the heat problem. The nice term "optimized" was a misleading to those who didn't have technical background. I put my phone under a fan and charged last night. As you can see below, it stopped at 80% and re-charged after few hours. It is because the temperature was cool down to certain level which triggered the re-charge. So it was clearly a failure product. Why Apply sell such product?
