Going back to erasing the Mac, did you try Internet Recovery?
> they can’t repair it unless I can magically poof the old ram back
So you have 3rd party RAM installed and Apple won't touch it, right? If yes, put the old RAM back. Should the new RAM be OK??
Or DIY. Can you make and boot from a USB macOS installer flash drive?
Download and run Etrecheck. Etrecheck is a diagnostic tool that was developed by one of the most respected users here in the ASC and recommended by Apple Support to provide a snapshot of the system and help identify the more obvious culprits that can adversely affect a Mac's performance.
IMPORTANT:
Before running Etrecheck assign Full Disk Access to Etrecheck in the Etrecheck's Privacy preference pane so that it can get additional information from the Console and log files for the report:
Also click and read the About info to further permit full disk access.
Copy the report
and use the Additional Text button to include the report in your reply.
Then we can examine the report and see if we can determine what might be causing the problem.
Honestly, there may be a way to improve performance without erasing. If so, we need an EtreCheck report. EtreCheck is a useful app to diagnose and identify issues, both hardware and software. It is trusted by many users. Please follow the steps outlined below:

I’ve tried all those, I was on the phone with apple for 2 hours today and they said my ssd is probably bad so I’m going to an apple store tomorrow morning to get it looked at, thanks for all your help!
This may be possible now, but earlier the OP said "No It can’t just be a little speed up, it was an update that made it lag so bad I could barely even use safari and I can’t go and get etre check because I can’t even boot the operating system" about EtreCheck.
Cheers,
Jack
So I just wanna say what happened so people can read this but I brought it to the apple store and they can’t repair it unless I can magically poof the old ram back in and if I can he will be impressed. The guy told me that I’m basically screwed and I can have fun doing it myself because nobody is going to help me with this and after calling supervisors for hours that’s about as far as I got. I wasted 6 hours of my day for them to say haha your screwed. Now it wasn’t that harsh but not too far from that. I’ve lost a lot of respect for apple over something this stupid. Thank you all for trying to help me. I hope to have better luck next time I do anything apple and if not I’ll be sticking to windows.
Yes, there is third party ram in it because apple told me that my old ram was bad so I replaced it and now it’s even worse than before. Apple told me that if I can revert everything back to the way it used to be then they’ll fix it but I can’t do that because of they’re tamper proof stickers. I do have a USB with Catalina on it and it always gets down to 2 minutes remaining then fails to install
Hi Insanelogic,
Are you trying to erase your internal drive (Macintosh HD) or an external disk?
Cheers,
Jack
Yes I am, my computer was being super laggy all of a sudden so I wanted to delete everything and start from scratch
