Why aren't my messages updating on my Mac with my iPhone?

i recently opened my mac just to find out I am not getting my messages on here. Only on my phone and apple watch. Does anyone know why?

iCloud keeps your entire message history updatedand available on all your devices, even when you set up a brand-new device.

On your Mac

  1. Open Messages.
  2. In the menu bar, choose Messages > Preferences.
  3. Click iMessage.
  4. Select the checkbox next to Enable Messages in iCloud.
