2 weeks ago I got myself a new iPhone 10 XR. When I opened up an app on my phone this morning the phone shut itself down and since then I am not able to operate the phone anymore. I tried charging it but so far no luck... any advise?

There two more things you could try
Flick the volume mute switch to see if the phone vibrates, if so book an appoinment for service with an apple store: https://locate.apple.com/nl/en
if this fails try placing your iPhone into recovery mode (backup iOS) :https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201263
If you can see a white cable and Mac after placing device into recovery it would be logical to suggest it is a software issue, otherwise you may need to get it serviced
Thank you for your quick reply. I have tried doing a fast reboot. However the screen remains black. I tried charging it for 1 hour through wireless charging. Through wire charging and through laptop charging. So far there is only a black screen. Nothing appears.
