SOLVED! iTunes 12 Crashes on startup - Windows 7

So i have been struggling with this for a while. iTunes 12.X crashes on startup every time on Windows 7. x86 or x64 doesn't matter.

Nothing really works as there is no problem with the installation of either Windows or iTunes or Bonjour Service or any additional software it might use.

The problem lies with checking for new software on startup.

So I had to find a solution and here it is - 100% working and you only have to do it ONCE!

Just a few easy steps til a proper iTunes update fixes it for good!

  1. Disable any active internet connection on your PC.
  2. Start iTunes.
  3. Go to "EDIT" - > "Preferences"
  4. Click on "Advanced"
  5. UNCHECK "Check for new software updates automatically"
  6. Click OK.
  7. Exit iTunes and Enable Internet connection again.
  8. Open iTunes and you should be fine!

Hope it helps everyone!

Hello foulmist. Your post reminded me of an earlier post from a Windows 7 user: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/252710798

I’m curious what version of iTunes you installed? (“12.x” could describe any version released in the last six years.)

The final version to support Windows 7 and 8 appears to be 12.10.11, which can be found at this page: https://support.apple.com/downloads/tunes
