i forgot my passcode to my iphone 11 and have not used the face ID option. how do i unlock it without having to factory rest the whole phone?

You can't.
This is what makes your private data so secure on an iOS device.
If you have a strong passcode that nobody can guess, mere possession of your device does not allow access to your data.
