Endless circle of ‘Update Apple ID Settings’

I just bought a new iPad Air 4 and iPhone 12 Pro Max at the same time. Upon completing the data migration (Bluetooth) from the old devices to the new, I signed out of my apple account on both of the old devices, turned them off and removed those devices from the list of my Apple devices.

There were no issues with the migration process, with the initial setup and was able to sign into my Apple account on both devices. That said, the problem I’ve been having since is when I sign into my Apple account, on say the iPhone, the iPad then wants me ‘Update Apple ID Settings’. When I enter my Apple ID password on the iPad and authorize that device via my iPhone, the prompt goes away and I’m all signed in on the iPad. However, then the iPhone wants me ‘Update Apple ID Settings’. I enter my password on the iPhone and authorize that device via my iPad, the prompt goes away and I’m all signed in on the phone. As you can guess, I then get that prompt again on the iPad...

I’m running iOS 14.4.2 on both devices. Hope someone knows how to resolve this and thanks in advance

Hi cledustx,

Thank you for posting Apple Support Communities. From our understanding, even after signing into your Apple ID on one device, you are prompted to sign into the other device continuously, do we have that right? That's definitely not expected behavior and we'd like to help.

Have both devices been restarted since noticing this issue?

Restart your iPhone

Restart your iPad

Also, you mentioned that you are running iOS/iPad 14.4.2, the latest iOS/iPadOS is 14.5.1. You should update both to confirm this isn't being cause by the software not being up to date.

Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Hope that helps!
