someone spying on my iphone X ?

sometimes the camera or mic icon will appear in the middle of the top of the screen. what is that ?

It appears that you're seeing two icons at the top of the screen of your iPhone X. You believe someone may be spying on you and not sure what those icons mean. We'd also feel a bit suspicious when seeing new icons appear, and we're glad to provide assistance.

Status icons and symbols on your iPhone - Apple Support -- Scroll down to "If you see orange or green indicators in the status bar". These icons indicate that your iPhone microphone and camera are being used.

Which application(s) do you have open when you see these icons? Have you given these apps permission to use the camera and microphone? Control access to hardware features on iPhone - Apple Support

Those icons show the last app that used the camera and last app that used the microphone. As you don’t see a dot in the status bar those apps are no longer using the camera or microphone.

After I found this , I switched off the permission to access the mic and cam in all the app in the “privacy” setting. So I am sure no app is allowed to access the mic and cam. I am not sure which app was in use when this happened, may be whatsapp or safari …. Is it caused by the facetime , even I uninstall it , it still can be found in the setting but showing in the name “null” . I remember that this happened may be related to — a message with content “1” was received from my boss few months ago.

I noticed thar these icon will stay forever until I power off and on the phone. Also I check it by sending a short video with an app such as WECHAT that I turn on the permission to access the mic and cam. And I check it again in “control center” , no such icon were found.

These icon appeared several times in this months but only 2 times that “recently” also shown after the icon and app name.

I verify that by accessing the cam and mic with other apps, no such icon were shown. So what is the specific condition for it to appear ? This icon were also appeared once in my 12 pro/max.

I remembered that once I want to find the cause :

First I check no icon appear in the control center. Then I open the “whatsapp” app and check again , the icon appeared.

But this was not happened everytime the “whatsapp” was opened. And by now the icon may appear anytime that I dont notice

Yes, they will stay on to tell you the last app that used the mic and camera, especially if you used the mic and camera again.
