Touch ID disabled on MacBook Pro

I just upgraded the operating system on my 2017 MacBook Pro to OS Catalina (10.15.7) and now Touch ID is disabled and when I go into the system preferences to change it, I get the following error message:

The operation couldn’t be completed. (com.apple.Biometrics error 60.)

Appreciate any help or suggestions anyone may have.

We see from your post that you're having trouble with Touch ID on your MacBook Pro.

Since you're seeing this error message, we'd like to test safe mode:

Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support

Test in safe mode and let us know what happens.
