Macintosh LC III Reset
I have a Macintosh LC III that I need to dispose of. First, is it worth any money? Second, how do I wipe the HD if I don’t have the system disks?

Hi,
Do you have access to another pre-1998 Macintosh computer with a built-in floppy drive? If so, you could create a bootable floppy disk with disk/wiping tools. If necessary, please post back for details.
If not, manually move all personal files to the Trash, and empty the Trash (the Special menu). Next move all other files on the hard disk except the System Folder and one large unimportant file to the Trash, and empty the Trash. After this, move all files in the Preferences folder (inside the System Folder) to the Trash, and empty the Trash. You should now have a basic System Folder and one large unimportant file on the hard disk. Next, repeatedly duplicate the unimportant large file until the hard disk is full (this will overwrite most of the empty space). Finally, move all the duplicated copies of the unimportant large file to the Trash, and empty the Trash. This will not completely and securely wipe the hard disk, but should be sufficient in many cases.
For values, have a look at completed/sold listings at an online auction site. You may find that it is easier and more profitable to sell various parts separately. For example, SCSI hard drives for older computer are often of interest.
