Copying files from HP laptop to Mac Book Air through external disc

I am unable to copy files from my previous laptop to MacBook Air, a new one bought a month back. One of my friends asked to download iboysoft app through which I was able to copy most of my files. However, I am unable to copy other files. Now Iboysoft free trial is over. Is there any other app through which I can copy the files?
