I can buy a used macbook air. How do I check if this device is stolen?

A used computer should be handed to you as if were new, when you start it up you should be welcomed with the setup screen so that you can set it up using your Apple ID. If the computer were stolen, and the real owner had set up Find My Mac, a thief wouldn't be able to properly prepare the MacBook for sale.
