I saw this question posed about 7 years ago. It’s unbelievable that there isn’t a solution, yet. Here it is:
are there any plans to create a way to leave a group text if there is an Android user in the group? If not, can the group text be blocked? This string has been going on long enough. No one on the string knows the originator and no one knows how to release me.

No, you will just have to delete posts are the appear. The SMS standard does not allow anyone to leave a group.
I agree it is a problem, but a common one. The ones to raise the issue with is the cellular industry organization, but I doubt they will ever do anything about it: https://www.ctia.org
A complaint to the FCC might get some attention: https://consumercomplaints.fcc.gov/hc/en-us or your US representative.
No, it has nothing to do with Apple. No one can leave a group SMS, regardless of their type of phone.
