I updated my software on my watch to 7.4.1 and now my battery only lasts between five and six hours any suggestions on how to change that

There are quite many reason why it could happen. Have a look in here for things to check:

Would something in there make a difference? Which series is it by the way? Do you recall which watchOS version you had before the update? Maybe there is a new feature now enabled by default that has that impact.
