Siri not reading texts on apple watch 6 when switched to a male voice.

My grandmother is legally blind and uses Siri to read her texts to her on her watch. She recently wanted Siri changed to a male voice, but now on the watch Siri will say he cannot do that when asked to read texts. This works fine with Siri on her iPhone 12, and has worked fine previously on the watch with the default Siri voice. Both iPhone and watch are fully updated. What would be causing this problem and is there a way to fix it?

Each Siri voice requires a download, so perhaps that was not fully completed. Which series of the watch is it and which version? Apple actually added more voices in the recent update, so it could be fun to try those out as well.

On the iPhone, under Settings > Siri & Search > Siri Voice, for English language there are four different American voices now, and two each for British, Indian, Irish, and Sourth African. When you select any of them, you can see a download kicking in.

Then on the watch, open Settings > Siri and make sure "Hey Siri" is enabled. If Hey Siri is already enabled and a voice is still missing, toggle it off and back on again.

Your Apple Watch needs to be on a Wi-Fi network for the voice to download, and it may take a few minutes.

And yes, updating to the latest versions is a prerequisite in order to get the most out of this feature.
