Unable to change pass code

I purchased an Apple watch and while setting it up I was not given option to select 4 or 6 digit pass code. Tried to change pass code on my Iphone and doesn't give me option to change. I have facial recognition and my current passcode is all numbers w/1 digit. When I try to change the passcode, it doesn't allow me to change to digits.
