i just pick up a macbook pro m1 from costco- UI have trouble installing any application. I only get spinning circle

Are you able to get into the App Store to search for applications? Do you have the MacBook Setup with an Apple ID? It's kind of hard to give you much assistance as you really haven't given much of an explanation of what is going on or what you have tried. You can also checkout If you can't download or update apps on your Mac - Apple Support to see if there is something that you can do that you haven't tried already.
