Both my Mac & iPhone Xs have suddenly stopped sending sound or visual notifications for mail or messages. I only know I have a message if I go into the ap. I have tried switching both on and off; signing out through system preferences and turning notifications off and back on again, but no luck. Does anyone have any advice?

Hi - I managed to sort the phone out after switching it on and off a few times. Finally think I have the Mac sorted too. I had to go into presences for both Messages and Mail and change the setting in 'New messages sound', and also had to go into System Preferences/Sound and change 'Play sound effects through' to internal speakers. I have not idea how any of these settings changed as all were fine prior to latest Big Sur update ??
