Touch Bar cracked. Tried Warranty Repairs - useless, it must be my fault
My MacBook Pro developed problems with the Touch Bar. At first the Touch Bar would not light up, but the functions came on the screen, despite not being able to see what you were touching. Then it stopped completely. Then I got a system crash error every time I logged in. I tried all the usual stuff. Reinstalled the IOS. Still problems. It started turning the sound off on my computer, it also changed my EarPods settings to left pod only, even though I changed it. Every time it rebooted it. Eventually found the iPhone app to contact support line. They told me to take it in. Then the technicians there said there was a crack in the Touch Bar, which can only have been caused through 'Physical Damage', which is not protected under the warranty. I have never dropped it or had anything unusual happen to it. It has a hard plastic cover and a soft foam sleeve case and then a Swiss Gear computer laptop case. I look after my equipment. They stated it would cost $677 to replace, ridiculous. Half the cost of the machine. The help desk were so unhelpful, no support here. They could not conceive of a faulty piece in the thousands that they produce. I've seen many complaints about cracked screens from using the Touch Bar, but again a user issue. I'm abroad at the moment with all the Covid restrictions and only one authorized dealer. He can't agree a warranty 'free' repair without the authorization of the Apple support tech. The Apple support tech cannot agree a warranty 'free' repair without the tech advise! I didn't even notice the crack, but the technician went straight to it. Suspicious. Very, very fine crack. I look after my 'baby'. It took me two years to save up for this, I had a 5ft receipt with all the vouchers I had collected. It's only in one place at home and no kids or pets to harm it. There's not a mark on the outer MacBook casing, so cannot see how it could have happed, apart from natural usage. Wondered if anyone else had had this similar problem? Lots of other things have started going wrong, a problem that appears every time I log on stating that there was an error on the last log in. Went through all procedures with the online tech - through iPhone support app. The one and only shop in my country states they cannot do a warranty repair as its 'Physical Damage'. There's no leeway with it. If it's cracked it's my fault. There is no other shop to go to here (I work abroad in Uzbekistan). They can't even call me here! Imagine that - Apple can't call all countries in the world, as it it's too technologically advanced for them (I remember a company called Skype who could!). I see lots of complaints about a cracked screen on MacBook Prod users, using the Touch Bar. They can't conceive of a faulty product in the thousands they produce?? I won't pay half the original price to replace a little bar. I won't even buy any more Apple products at all. I'm small fry though. Wondered if anyone else was in the same situation?
