Please please how do I turn Low Data Mode off PERMANENTLY. It’s a deal breaker frankly. Like IOS constantly turning the volume down.....

I see the confusion. I think you don’t understand what “low data mode” means. It doesn’t mean that your data transfer is slow; it means that certain functions that your carrier doesn’t want you to use over a cellular connection are not supported, such as iOS updates. The same as you can’t update iOS over cellular data on your phone.

I just tried your scenario using my phone’s personal hotspot from my iPad. My download speed was 50 Mbps.

My data transfer is awesome. It isn’t the carrier that is switching on “low data mode”, it’s IOS, which is constantly disabling certain functions despite me telling it not to, because it assumes that me and my carrier are idiots..... I’ve only just got over IOS telling me that it knows best and my music is too loud, so it used to constantly turn the volume down on Google maps to the point where I couldn’t hear directions. And no, I’m not in the slightest bit deaf..... Is it arrogance/stupidity on their part, or is that they’re just scared of being sued?

Apple disables those functions because the carriers require Apple to do that to protect their networks from overload. If you don’t want that limitation get an iPhone 12 and use it only on 5G, where most carriers permit updates.

And Apple’s volume limitations are there because they are required by law in many countries and locations. Again, it isn’t Apple’s decision. And you can turn that feature off in audio settings for all devices except earphones.

My carrier guarantees unlimited data, even when tethered. It’s in the contract (I’m in the UK btw if that makes any difference). I regularly download several Gb a day through my iPhone (to and from a tethered MacBook). You’re saying that my carrier is forcing IOS to disable my turning off “low data mode” on the tethered iPad in order to save at most a few Mb a day?

I’m sorry Lawrence. My carrier wants no such thing. With respect that’s a nonsense. My carrier is perfectly happy with me updating and transferring many Gb a day on a tethered MacBook. Only IOS has a problem, which is totally Apple’s problem.... My carrier has confirmed in writing and verbally that unlimited means unlimited..... Thank you for your help. This is a known issue, I just thought someone might have a workaround 😊
