How changing Mail accounts/ Mail Preferences/Accounts

Hello,

How can I change my Mail accounts ?

My website provider has moved the website to a new environment: username is now with @<website>.nl , hostname is without 'www.', port is changed from 110 to 995.

Under Mail: Preferences: Accounts: Server setup: I add @<website>.nl to the username, I delete the www. and change the port number.

Then I get the error message: "Verify account name or password failed".

If I go to another account, I can only click on the button "Do not save".

How can I update my Mail accounts without losing the settings I entered ?

Thanks,

Hubert

Open Keychain Access in Utilities, then either check the Password under that item, change it, or delete it and start over.

Enter the part after the @sign in the search bar.

You may have duplicate or more entries in Keychain Access.

If using a browser to login via WebMail works it's not Name or Password, but likely old passwords interfering.

There''ll be at least 2 entries, maybe more.

The trouble is that Mac Mail almost always chooses the old Passwords if you don't change or get rid of the old ones.

Restart to clear some caches.

The big bugaboo with Mail is finding the keychain for any auto setup Mail accounts, if IMAP it usually involves deleting the account & setting it up again to fix it. POP must be backed up OnMyMac first.

I eliminated all mail accounts in Keychain Access.

The passwords are empty. The port must be 995. But Mail is changing it every time to 110. The same happens with the user names.

Now under Mail: Preferences: Accounts the passwords are empty. Also saving the password is not possible.

I also receive no mails anymore on our iPhones nor iPads.
