Backup
I logged out from iCloud and then logged in again and it had a backup copy, but the pictures disappeared, why?

Based of your description you're not backing up to icloud if the pictures disappeared.
You were syncing to icloud as outlined here Set up and use iCloud Photos - Apple Support
