Thanks for the answer. What a frustratingly annoying feature

Thank you for the input Sparks0829 (btw, that is the 0829 is month and year of my father's birth who is now deceased).
You state: "...have an option to disable it." What are you referring to disabling?
And then you state, "...check with the manufacturer of your headphones to see if this is possible" To see if what is possible?
I do thank you for your reponse but am not clear what you are referring to in both of your comments. It will be helpful if you would kindly provide clarification Sparks0829.
Thank you again for your response. I now am anxious to hear your replies to my inquiries.

Hello spickey,
Thanks for joining us in Apple Support Communities! We understand you're asking how to prevent your iPhone from playing music or audio automatically when it's connected to your headphones. We'd be happy to provide some guidance.
This is normal behavior when connecting an iOS device to a Bluetooth or USB accessory.
While there is not a setting to disable autoplay on your iPhone, some accessories have an option to disable it. You may want to check with the manufacturer of your headphones to see if this is possible. If you have a moment, and you'd like to provide feedback about this feature, you can do so by visiting this link:
Take care.
