Hey there! Good question.

Can you check if a root user has been enabled?

How to enable the root user on your Mac or change your root password:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204012

About the root user

https://support.apple.com/guide/directory-utility/about-the-root-user-dirub32398f1/mac

This may not be the case, but worth a check, if enabled, it would show the option to Disable Root User, instead of Enable Root User. If enabled, you can disable it/restart to test.

To my knowledge, this is what that meant.

I believe Terminal would also show an active root user as well:

sudo dscl . list /Users

You can find Terminal in Finder > Applications > Utilities.

If all else fails, this command would disable “Other” users, if still relevant with Big Sur, can’t say for sure, but would backup your Mac before running this command, can’t be too careful, but would report the results of the other tests first:

sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.loginwindow SHOWOTHERUSERS_MANAGED -bool FALSE

Hope that helps!
