“SafariPlugInUpdateNotifier quit unexpectedly” every few seconds

well: it just now started happening again every /very/ few seconds, and i’m not even using safari…

the error report does say it will be auto-reported to Apple, but there has been no substantive response from them

I've clicked 'Send' on hundreds of these errors over the past couple of weeks - I get the big panel with the full crash report. And of course, you can't just hit Enter to sent it because the cursor is in the Tell Us What Happened box...

It'll be fine for a day, then in the middle of nothing related to Safari (wide variety of circumstances), I'll get bombarded until I restart the machine. I have one Safari related add-on, and that's Ghostery Lite. Again, I don't even have to have Safari open for the error to appear.

Can't seem to find a common link to the onset, which is also odd.

Happens on a 2019 iMac and 2013 trashcan, both similarly loaded and Catalina-current.

¿maybe it’s the reference to flash, since that’s now deprecated…

just a stab in the dark: i’ll attempt to remove any of my related plists, that i can find, to force them being rebuilt… (it may not be possible without logging on as admin/super-user.)

I'm sick enough of this annoyance myself that I used the Term command—I can update plugins manually…

Well: that did /not/ help at all, although it did reduce the number of times the error has appeared since I posted…

Mine shows this:

/System/Library/CoreServices/SafariSupport.bundle/Contents/MacOS/SafariPlugInUpdateNotifier

and: i’m on fully updated mojave—the last safari update did work for me, but only a few days, so more work to do…

In addition to my iMac and MacPro, it's also now afflicted my 2013 MBP (also Catalina current). This is Not Good.

and suddenly today, right now, it's started again—3 times in a quick succession after accessing the web from inside Typora…

The same problem ocured to me this morning, so I replaced the full "SafariSupport.bundle" folder with the same one from a 1 month old time machine backup. And there is no third party plugin in my Safari, as I almost don't use it at all (and Flash player has been uninstalled long ago).

So far it seems to be working, I pray it lasts...

The path: /System/Library/Coreservices/SafariSupport.bundle

Further research indicates that SIP must be off to make this change, and that there is a specific procedure to ensure it stays in effect:
