“SafariPlugInUpdateNotifier quit unexpectedly” every few seconds

All of a sudden I am getting “SafariPlugInUpdateNotifier quit unexpectedly” every few seconds.

Any idea what I can do?

When I click “Report…” nothing happens, this also is unusual.

Someone had this question here a while ago but got no “helpful” answer.

Elsewhere I read that someone did this:

sudo launchctl remove com.apple.SafariPlugInUpdateNotifier

But I’m wary of removing a system file …

Please help.

TIA, Tom in Germany

Can’t help you with (1), as it stopped over here without me knowing why—I didn’t knowingly change anything.

But re: (2):

“SIP” = System Integrity Protection

I don’t think this is something I want to turn off.

I've clicked 'Send' on hundreds of these errors over the past couple of weeks - I get the big panel with the full crash report. And of course, you can't just hit Enter to sent it because the cursor is in the Tell Us What Happened box...

It'll be fine for a day, then in the middle of nothing related to Safari (wide variety of circumstances), I'll get bombarded until I restart the machine. I have one Safari related add-on, and that's Ghostery Lite. Again, I don't even have to have Safari open for the error to appear.

Can't seem to find a common link to the onset, which is also odd.

Happens on a 2019 iMac and 2013 trashcan, both similarly loaded and Catalina-current.

The same problem ocured to me this morning, so I replaced the full "SafariSupport.bundle" folder with the same one from a 1 month old time machine backup. And there is no third party plugin in my Safari, as I almost don't use it at all (and Flash player has been uninstalled long ago).

So far it seems to be working, I pray it lasts...

The path: /System/Library/Coreservices/SafariSupport.bundle
