audio interface popping on new m1

Replaced my old MacBook Pro with MacBook Air M1 with expanded memory. My primary use is for Garageband and I needed Big Sur to update to new Garageband versions. I am getting a random intermittent pop/spike/click/drop-out when using GB with my Behringer U-Phoria UMC404HD. I appreciate this is not everybody's favourite audio interface however it was been extremely reliable prior to buying the new MacBook. I have narrowed it down to the audio interface by a process of alternative setups and elimination so I'm very confident that it's the problem. Tried a lot of fixes (workarounds . . . I don't want to workaround really) including switching off WiFi etc. No drivers required. Audio recording resolution 24 Bit/192kHz conversion. I'm not a tekkie so if anyone has any practical suggestions as to what I might try that would be appreciated.
