If you can get access to your own account on a computer with the required minimum macOS version for the current version you can download the new version of the app to it. Now go to your old computer and search for the application in the Mac App Store application. Try downloading it. It may offer an older version if one is available. If this is an app that uses a service there is no guarantee the old version will actually work with the service but I have found some old versions are available and provide partial functionality.

Like it or not, it is Apple's decision what they want to make available. I run an even older OS than you but I also make sure that I take every opportunity available to download app versions that I can't even run yet just so I have them when the day comes that I do want to run them. I have Keynote for Mojave even though I am nowhere near close to wanting to use Mojave yet. I downloaded it a year and a half ago on a Mac with Mojave and then put it on an archive drive so when I need it I have it. If you want to use old Macs you have to learn how to work with how Apple does things.
