The position of the text boxes in a title template cannot be moved. However, with some titles like Reveal, Centered, and Expand you can put the cursor right in front of the first letter of the text, and, while holding down the Option key repeatedly press return to move the text downward.
You can also experiment with the Scrolling Credits title. Over a background you can select and delete all of the default template text. Then type in your own text. It will come in at the top. You can move the playhead to position the text on the screen, and then take a screen shot (Command-Shift-4) of the preview screen and import the screen shot back in and insert it into the timeline.
You can also use the Preview app on your Mac to create a transparency screen on which you can type text and insert it into your iMovie project with the Picture in Picture feature. That would allow you to adjust the position of the text.
To create a transparency, open a duplicate of any random photo in the Preview app on your Mac. Do an Edit/Select All, Edit/Delete. That will leave you with a blank transparency screen. (If you get a prompt to convert, choose yes.) Then go to Tools/Annotate/Text. Type in your text in the text box that appears on the transparency screen that you created. Save.
Drag the saved title text into the upper timeline of your iMovie project, above the clip into which you want to insert the title. Select the title text clip by clicking on it. Click on the overlay icon (the one that looks like overlapping squares) that appears in the tool bar at the upper right of your project screen. Choose Picture in Picture in the selection box that appears. Adjust the size and position of the text on the preview screen. (You can drag the adjustment rectangle outside the boundaries of the screen if need be.) Click on the blue reset button to the right of the project screen to insert the text into your clip.

Can you describe in more detail what it is that you are trying to do? Are you wanting to use third party downloaded fonts in iMovie? When you say "test boxes" are you referring to iMovie title templates, and are you talking about moving the displayed position of text on the screen?

Hello Rich, and thank you for taking time to help.
I have imported a font which works in a text box in iMovie.
However, the style of the title has a box for the text right across the centre of screen.
I would like to be able to move the box, and its text, up or down, but the position is locked. Is there a way of making it moveable?
Thanks again
Don
