What format is best for a 5.5 gen iPod Classic movies?

I have some plans to get a 5.5 gen iPod Classic (that may not be realised) but don't know which movie format is best, SD or HD. I've heard that HD won't work, but I just want to be sure before any money is spent.

(Just to be clear, I mean which format is best for the iPod)

As far as tell you'll need to use SD video which also meets the following limitations:

H.264 video, up to 1.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Baseline Low-Complexity Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48 kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats.
MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48 kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
