My son, Cody, 29 years old, just suffered a brain stem stroke that has left this active man completely paralyzed from the mouth, down. He is in, what is known as Locked-in Syndrome. He can only communicate with his eyes. As his father, and caregiver, I am desperate to give him the gift of communicating again. I thought I'd start here and see if my plea for help will get to the right hands at Apple. I am looking for the latest technology to help this guy with a heart of gold talk again, use the computer again, and connect with people again.

thank you,

Geoff Hull

It may also be worthwhile to directly contact Apple Support - and ask to speak with an Accessibility Specialist. Apple have a team dedicated to offering support for accessibility issues. They will be able to offer help and support with suggestions and specific settings for users with difficulties with motor function and other disabilities.

You can contact Apple Support using the Get Support link at top-right of this page. Alternatively, you can initiate contact, or open a support case, using the excellent Apple Support App. If not already installed on your iPad, the App can be downloaded from the App Store:

I hope this information is helpful in obtaining the specialist help that you need.

There are companies that make devices for people like Cody. An iPad may not be exactly the right device.

I have been told that an iPad with Face ID, along with the communication app TouchChat, can be used for "head pointing" communication. I am not sure how that works.

You may want to look for an AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) specialist in your area. Some hospitals or colleges may be able to give you some guidance.
