Print pdf →part is truncated from right side & bottom

Hi Guys, when I try to print as pdf from apple mail (export as PDF or print dialog →save as PDF option), and similar issue when saving as pdf in chrome

I use GUI applescript to print email, end up with missing parts on right/ bottom of page

I have tried several suggestion elsewhere including change in paper size etc, delete printer plist but none seems to work.

I believe apple mail does not have function to export to pdf

Any suggestions are welcome

Cheers

Hi one208

I found this too when I read your post. It looks like up to 40% of the email at the bottom overlaps into page 2 by about 35%.

The following fixed it for me.

In the Print dialogue window, about half way down just below the Orientation and Scale boxes is another horizontal box that may say 'Media & Quality' or 'Layout' or something.

Change this to 'Paper Handling'.

There will now be a box below named 'Scale to fit paper size'. Likelihood is, you have this unchecked.

Check it.

The preview to the left should now fit better on the page.

Boot into Safe Mode according to Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support and see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and check again.

NOTE: Safe Mode boot can take up to 10 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

Hi again one208

I find I have the same problem now, having to redo each time, too. Didn't have this before.

In your Printer Dialogue box, do you have an exclamation mark (!) next to your selected printer? I also find I need to amend the destination paper size every time too.

Tried it in 'Safe Mode', as Old Toad suggested, but it is the same.

I'm wondering if I'm going to need to re-install my printer driver. If I can remember how to do it. It was downloaded direct from HP if I remember correctly, and didn't come on a CD/DVD. Not as straightforward as a CD/DVD either.

Just a thought. You want to print to PDF right?

With the relevant email selected in Mail, under File in the Menu bar, do you use the 'Export to PDF' option thereunder, or do you go into Print just below, then use the options there?

Also, in Mail at least, if I use the Save as PDF option in the Print Menu I get more than one type of PDF offered. PDF and Adobe PDF. I've no idea what, if any, difference there is between the two. Maybe you are using one or other of these?

On the 'checking the Scale to fit...' box and others being needed to be done every time issue I had, I seem to have been able to fix that by going into Recovery Mode (Cmd + R on startup) and using Disk Utility there on both my MacIntosh HD items. The Destination Paper size now appears to stick too. I still get the exclamation mark next to my printer's name however, so it remains to be seen if the problem comes back again.

I think I will run Etrecheck Pro next to see what it says about my printer.

I needed to print → PDF for emails & archive them.

Outlook is a pain to do applescript tho supports export to pdf (fails to select messages, tried all sorts (get messages), set to selection, wont play well)

Looking at applemail →eml, and then may be pdf

wish I know why the pdf rendering wud cut off contents !

Have a gud day guys
