2 factor authentication

In setting up my watch I inadvertently turned on 2 factor authentication. Now I can no longer use my fingerprint scanner for purchases on my phone. How do I fix this? I went to settings, my name, password and security. Two-Factor Authentication is on but there is no edit to click. There's an edit option to change the phone number. The word ON is not highlighted so I can't click on it. I'm really not happy about this. I just want to be able to scan my finger print for purchases.

Can I turn off two-factor authentication after I’ve turned it on?

If you already use two-factor authentication, you can no longer turn it off. Certain features in the latest versions of iOS and macOS require this extra level of security, which is designed to protect your information. If you recently updated your account, you can unenroll within two weeks of enrollment. Just open your enrollment confirmation email and click the link to return to your previous security settings. Keep in mind, this makes your account less secure and means that you can't use features that require higher security.

Two-factor authentication for Apple ID - Apple Support

In which situation is that fingerprint scanner used for purchases though? Apple Pay on the watch is not asking for that for instance. So how is this related to Apple Watch?

Obviously setting up and switching to another Apple ID is a possible solution, if you really need to find a way around this...
