Formatting an external drive for M1 Macbook Pro
I can't seem to be able to format my WD Elements 2Tb external drive to my M1 Macbook pro to be able to drag and drop files and utilize Time Machine?
Please help!

Erase and reformat a storage device in Disk Utility on Mac
Time machine is best used with a dedicated storage device, no drag and drop here.
If you must also use the storage device you can add shared Volumes under the Container
Add, delete, or erase APFS volumes in Disk Utility on Mac ...

3-2-1 Backup Strategy: three copies of your data, two different methods, and one offsite.
