I am the original owner of a Pismo G3. The battery will not take a charge, and I am unable to find a supplier for a replacement. I have two questions:

There are suppliers of individual cells to replace those similar to installed
ones within the official battery housings; portable Macs, PCs; and air-hats.
Shops perform battery replacement on the air-hat types of things; those
with face screen, a reverse air-flow, and a filter behind the poly helmet.
Have a battery on the user's belt. Battery runtime varies from 3 to 6 hrs.
A shop with knowledgable 'skilled soldering person' can assemble one.
A commercial product, while the batteries are similar to those in portable
Macs & PC computers; those don't have as smart of a charging technology.
(Yet the 'smart part' is a circuit & shares space inside the Mac battery case.)
However older iPowerBook G3/G4 whose batteries often held together
with screws + glue, should be easier to replace kit than only-glued ones.
Those powered filtered electric breathing apparatus used by craftsmen
to filter hazardous particulates, while they do intricate work. These see
repair service through their retail sales; as do other electronic repair.
[A buddy makes IRBI custom knives (+ hands-on crafts) has two air-hats.]
Perhaps an external rechargable kit can be adapted, as workaround.

An issue usually develops with the 'processor default' speed, when Macs
run without the battery installed. Since the CPU runs slower on AC-power,
when battery is not present. ~ You may locate 'depleted spare' original G3
Pismo batteries; then take-apart One -- to peer inside, & then decide..
The parts inside their OEM battery shell are mostly like generic ones.
An electronic repair shop who can physically-fit the correct cells, is
an option you'd have to research. I'd found another in Anchorage;
who replaces batteries, in Phillips/Norelco electric razors. ~Bet they
also can replace older PowerBook cells, with new generics; into OEM
Apple battery case. -Note 'original wired' connections, in Apple shell.
A careful expedition into the depths of old tech may yield useful clues!
Thank you for the insight. Actually, I don't really need the portability of the battery; primary concern is having the weight (ballast) for occasional nostalgic use. The other concern is about leakage or damage to my old friend.
Being honest, I don't think you can find someone to replace a PowerBook battery these days.
