How can I reduce width of Safari window/tab using arrowhead cursor at margin?
or even move it using grey area atop.
Hide Safari command is dimmed.

Put the arrowhead cursor at the middle of the window, hold down on the mouse/track pad, and drag it to the left.
Sorry to report the action had no effect on the window.

I take it back - Mail margins now moveable - app can now be hidden.

I may have spoken too soon - the problem persists in Safari - with 12 tabs
open, 16GB memory - although other apps behave. So we're narrowed it
down to Safari 14.1 over Catalina.
Problem still here - thought it was fixed, but no.
