Can't turn off the Apple startup sound

for some people, this works. for others, it won't. but you can go into your utilities folder and open terminal. paste this command into it:

sudo nvram StartupMute=%01

enter your admin password when prompted. then restart the mac and you will see if it has worked for you.

No doubt there is a reason for the sound to occur - like the Bad Memory 3x beep or other know audible hardware failure notifications.

Yes, one might what to turn the Sound completely OFF before shutting down. In theory - on next cold boot - no sound.
