Can't turn off the Apple startup sound. When I turn off the Apple startup sound under "Sound" does the setting turn it back on again. I have previous could turn off the Apple startup sound.
No doubt there is a reason for the sound to occur - like the Bad Memory 3x beep or other know audible hardware failure notifications.
Yes, one might what to turn the Sound completely OFF before shutting down. In theory - on next cold boot - no sound.
for some people, this works. for others, it won't. but you can go into your utilities folder and open terminal. paste this command into it:
sudo nvram StartupMute=%01
enter your admin password when prompted. then restart the mac and you will see if it has worked for you.
Upgrade to MacOS 11.4 is the problem fixed:-)
