my apple tv 4k is only producing 2 channel stereo on my yamaha receiver when I watch certain shows on a few apps like youtube tv and peacock... it shows the source as PCM and I only get 2 ch stereo... Netflix does not have this problem when watching atmos

It is a matter of what content and the service. You would need to be viewing a movie or show that is delivered in surround or Atmos when using an on demand service (i.e. Netflix will show badges for those). User generated content on Youtube and most live services will be in 2.0

It isn't an issue with the hardware, it is dependent on the service and those two only supply 2.0
As I said all content on those will be in 2.0. You need to use services like Netflix.
Thanks, is there anyway to see which apps play in 2.0 and those that do SS or Atmos? I know Netflix is full function but it would be nice to know... so I know how to set my receiver for different channels
The only content that doesn't apply would be purchased movies that are coming from Google Play Store. In that case it would still be advised to check Google Play and see that the title lists 5.1 and if it does then contact Google.
I could not find any content playing other that 2.0 on youtube, peacock, and tuba... all the others... netflix etc were fine
