CarPlay interferes with Apple Watch

I have an Apple Watch series 3 and an iPhone XS. After using CarPlay, my watch does not consistently get notifications from my phone. I leave the ringer off on the phone and just let my watch ring for calls, but after using CarPlay I will have missed calls and texts because my watch does not ring/ding. To be clear, the iPhone is no longer connected to CarPlay. If I restart the watch and the phone, everything works again. It's really annoying though. Any suggestions?

Hi BBVVA,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities! We appreciate you reaching out for help with this behavior you're experiencing on Apple Watch after using CarPlay. We'd love to help in any way we can.

When using your iPhone with CarPlay, does Do Not Disturb While Driving turn on? If so, you'll want to ensure that this feature is turned off after disconnecting your iPhone, so that it's reflected on your Apple Watch.

Alternatively, you may prefer to head into Settings > Do Not Disturb, and tap on the option for Activate under Do Not Disturb While Driving. From here, you may set Do Not Disturb While Driving to Manually, and disable the option to Activate With CarPlay, so that Do Not Disturb isn't enabled automatically while driving.

Here's a great resource with more information. Let us know if you have any questions:

Hi BBVVA,

Thanks for clarifying. In that case, you'll want to ensure that both your Apple Watch and iPhone are fully updated. The following guide has the recommended steps to update Apple Watch:

Update your Apple Watch - Apple Support

And this guide can help with backing up and updating iPhone:

Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

So you're aware, a new version of iOS and watchOS has just been released today, bringing iOS to 14.6 and watchOS to 7.5.

If they're already updated and you find that the issue persists, you may want to reach out to your vehicle manufacturer directly to inquire about any available firmware updates for the stereo unit.

If there are no firmware updates available, reach out to Apple Support directly at that point to investigate this behavior further. You can contact Apple Support directly via the following link:
