How to remove section breaks in Pages

I used the school report template from pages to create a journal. it has section breaks in it and I've tried every which way to remove them as well as YouTube, the internet and Apple support with no luck.

Can anyone tell me if this is possible to do or am I missing something?

I just want stand alone pages in my document.

Thanks

Mike

Hi Mike,

In that template, those blue lines are Line Shapes in the background (Section Master).

Menu > Arrange > Section Masters > Make Master Objects Selectable.

Then you can click on them to select them and press delete.

HI Mike,

The blue line after the date on the cover page, showing a 'book' symbol at the right end is a Section break.

It can be selected by double-clicking the 'book' then deleted by pressing delete.

The purpose of the Section break at that location is twofold:

  • It clears the rest of the cover page (below the break) of text placed in the Document Body.
  • It makes the cover a separate section, allowing the headers and footers to be different from those in the rest of the document. This permits adding page numbers, starting with 'page 1' on the first content page, while leaving the cover page free of numbers.

Regards,

Barry

The blue line near the top of Page 2 is, as Yellowbox reported, an object (shape) that has been placed in the Section Master. Follow his istructions if that is the item you are asking about.

Hi Mike,

Been there and Done that, more than once. Moving house can be an aggravating time! Hope yours went well.

Where was the image in relation to that text before the section break was removed?

If the original arrangement was something line this:

Text text text text text text text text text text

text text text text text text text text text text

text text text text text text text.

Section break;

IMAGE----------------------------------------------

-                                                                  -

-                                                                  --                                                                  -

-                                                                  -

-                                                                  -

----------------------------------------------IMAGE

(new page)

More Text text text text text text text text text text

text text text text text text text text text text

text text text text text text text.

etc.

Then removing the section break will remove the instruction pushing 'More Text…' to the next xection (and consequently to the next page.

The released text will move upward to fill the empty space in the document body, and (if the image's Wrap setting has been set to 'none', some of that text will flow behind the image.

You can prevent that by either:

Replacing the removed section break with a Page break,

OR

Setting Wrap on the image to Above and Below, keeping the text from 'hiding' behind the picture.

The two suggested changes are independent of each other, and have different effects. Ty each separately for suitability.

Barry
