no tv remote to set up wifi connection

We lost our remote to our Apple TV. At home we just use the remote app on our phones. We took our Apple TV to go camping in our rv. We can't use our remote app, because we are not on the same wifi anymore. I have an ethernet connection to the device from my MacBook Air but can't get to the settings controls. I used to be good at this stuff then something changed to make it easier?

Okay Here's what I did. I connected my MacBook air to the Apple TV with ethernet cable and usb c to ethernet adapter. Connected my MacBook to my phones hotspot. Then opened the appletv remote app in the pull down menu on my phone. This gave me access to the Apple TV settings to log onto the campsites wifi. Bada Boom Bada Bing!! Problem solved . I hope this helps someone out. I knew I could do it. I sometimes find the answer by accident and forget what I did. So I'm posting this for posterity's sake. And anyone else who has this problem.
