Not enough space for first time back up in time machine

Hi,

I'm trying for the first time to back up my MacBook pro 500 GB.

I use 1TB SanDisk SSD Plus, and it is empty.

When I try to create my first backup, the progress bar reaches around 400 GB of backup and says that "There isn't enough space on your ssd".

I tried to format the disk and back up again, but same problem.

Hope there is a fix for that.

Thanks

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 11.3

The external drive in question - often times the Manufacture bundles their software on the new drive. If so, has their software been installed to the computer. If Yes, strongly suggest Removing their software as per Their Instructions. MacOS can manages the drive without the generally very buggyManufacture software interfering.

Then reformat the external Drive using the Apple Utilities as APFS with the GUID Partition Map. Once done - Try Again.

Think the real issue might not be the External Drive and Space. It is there is not enough Empty Space on the Internal Drive for Time Machine to make a SnapShot which if then moved to the External Drive.

Open Terminal residing in the Other Folder in LaunchPad and type" tmutil listlocalsnapshots / " without quotation marks - it will list all the older SnapShot. Now, I need help from More experienced Contributor for the command to remove some of these Older Snapshots. Once that is achieved - Time Machine should work
