What portable back up drive can I use for Time Machine for my

Which portable drive is good to use as Time Machine backup for my 2012 Macbook Pro? I'm looking for one I do not have to reformat. I have a SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD but it is not even recognized by my computer. Any suggestions?

Any usb drive will work. Whatever you get it will have to be formatted for your Mac or it won't work.
