App Store draining battery

Having turned off ALL background app updates, so far battery seems better and the App Store no longer appears top of the list of things using battery.

So Apple have made a complete mess of the App Store background updates in 14.6. It’s an unacceptable workaround but at least it means the phone may be usable until they fix their mess, hopefully in 14.7 shortly.

You might want to try the same rather than go to all the hassle of the standard repetitive suggested full backup and restore.

Note when I say turned off all background app updates that’s the overall switch, not the individual apps….

I have been thinking about this and it seems illogical

I am first concerned at the steep drain with nothing much going on app-wise.

If it cannot hold its charge then get a new battery.

If it passed the test then using whatever backup process you use and ate confident with

Backup, restore as new, and restore from backup

 (I recommend the computer method if you have one)

There was someone today on the forum had 160 apps. That could take a couple of days to update after a major ios update.

Same with transferring to a new phone with Quick start.

Turn it back on at night on charge to get the necessary updates.

I have exactly this - it's utterly ridiculous since 14.6. My App Store is the top battery use in the last 10 days with 46% of usage and then Messages is next with 8%.

Yet in terms of activity, App Store shows 1 minute (yes - minute!) whilst Messages shows over 4 and a half hours.

Apple have completely screwed up something with 14.6 - how can the App Store use nearly half the battery in 1 minute of use, when the next biggest user ie Messages uses only 8% in well over 4 hours.......?

And frankly these people who reply to every issue with 'backup, restore and new and restore from backup' are adding what value? Seems like they just want to try and get as many posts as possible to bolster their ratings - pathetic.

Well you will be pleased to note that nobody has earned any points from this post. That is in the gift of thadrumr not you or me.

Totally illogical strange and rare iphone behaviour can usually be fixed by

1. Forced restart while in the app concerned
2. Reload of the ios when the app concerned is part of the ios
3. hardware repair.

Also using 8% if the battery used in an hour is not 8% if the total battery itself.

Try some positive input instead of envious back biting.

Yes I agree backup and restore with a lot of apps would need App Store resources to restore.

In that case the apps would be shown darkened and gradually download.

I keep mine current every day manually and auto update is off

4% is more drain than I would like but it isn’t a massive leak over 8 hours.
