How to take larger photos on iPhone?

I want to take larger photos, larger than 1 MB. How do I adjust the size?

The resolution of the image is different from the file size used to store it. If you’re using the default photo mode, the image resolution is the maximum possible for your iPhone model’s camera, regardless of the size of the file for the stored image.


In other words, the file size is not the variable to be looking at since the file size includes any compression for the image format being saved (HEVC vs JPEG). If you have an iPhone 12, turn on ProRAW in camera settings to get maximum resolution images.
