Iphoto Size Reduction

How to reduce size of photos taken with phone, transferred into Iphotos, hoping to use as cover page photo in Facebook. Not interested in cropping off pieces. Thanks.

According to this site, the image would be optimized at 820×360px, with a 620×312px ‘safe zone’ in the middle. That is because it will be displayed differently on mobile vs. desktop.

820×360px is wider (2.28:1) than most photos, so some cropping will be done. If not by you, then automatically by the Facebook site. The width in pixels is important here.

Custom scaling can be done in e.g. the Preview app (menu Tools﹥Adjust Size﹥) or any other image editor.

The Photos app is not really suitable for scaling, but you can use the Edit With shortcut (menu Image﹥Edit With﹥[choose app] from within the Photos app.
