Can I use car-powersupply usb-a for my Iphone 12

Since a couple of days I have a IPhone 12. Normaly I could charge my 8 in my car. How about a 12? Can I charge my 12 with the same car-powersupply as the 8.

Thanks for the help.

Hey Jacq.west!

We would be more than happy to provide you with more information on the power supplies the iPhone 8 and iPhone 12 use.

The iPhone 8 comes with a Lightning to USB cable, and the iPhone 12 comes with a USB-C to Lightning cable. The iPhone 12 also uses a 20W or higher power supply, as an iPhone 8 uses an 18W or higher power supply.

If the car power supply doesn't have a USB-C port, or isn't at least 20W, then it cannot be used to charge your iPhone 12.

As part of Apple’s drive to be environmentally conscious, they have not included a charge cube with new devices. Their rationale for this is that users like you and me already have many combinations of cables and charge cubes available from previous purchases. While a 20 watt charge cube will indeed charge the phone faster, you can use a lower power source, such as the USB-A in your car. You can also use the Apple supplied 5 watt cube from previous iPhones. Note the compatibility list at the link below.
