emails received garbled
emails received on my iMac are often garbled, show no sender, and with attachments missing. The same emails passed via my iPhone to my iMac are shown correctly.

Start with this my friend...
Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode? Could take 10 minutes.
Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches & loads safe Drivers, & prevents loading of 3rd party extensions, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.

Wo, I never heard of that, maybe your copy is infected???
See if you have unknown Profiles.

Thank you BDAqua for that. I have started in safe mode, and initially the "usual suspects" are appearing correctly, with one exception. I need to see the effect on more emails, which will take a few days (as I am retired I don't get large numbers!), before restating normally to see if there is an improvement.
Cheers
Hi BDAqua. I have been running for several days now after a normal re-boot. So far the types of email which previously arrived garbled & with "no address" are received without problems. Fingers crossed! Thank you for your help.
BDAqua. My earlier relief was somewhat premature, as the garbled emails started appearing once I restarted my Family History research. However, I had only run a couple of programs, and realized things bagan again after I started up my Chrome browser. So I shut this down, rebuilt the Mail inbox, which downloaded the "problem" emails from the server, and all worked fine! Presumably there is some sort of Mail clash with the Chrome browser. What do you think?
I have looked at the View menu in System Preferences but no profiles are showing. I have Norton 360 installed, which has not picked up any issues - am running a full scan just in case. Work round is not to run both Mail and Chrome at the same time!
OK my friend! :)
Great news, take care my friend! :)
Just in passing... many, many have had problems with Norton messing things up.
Thank you for the heads-up. I'll just go with the workround. Thank you for your adivice. Keep safe.
OK, take care my friend.
