Removing Photos Library from Mac

I want to remove the photo library from my Macbook Pro. The other threads said to open system preferences, and under apple id, cloud - uncheck the Photos box. The thread said that it should ask if I want to delete the photos, but it does not. I've tried restarting at doing it again - no luck. Any suggestions?
