in plug in settings there is a couple button beside a Left Right button. what does that do?

If you are referring to the "Link" button on the right side of a Plug in Window check out the help for for "Link or unlink plug-in windows"
If it is not the Link button can you provide a screen shot example?
If you enable "Quick Help" you can hover over the button and information will be provided in the Quick Help window.
